My Comments on www.allheadlinenews.com Article

AHN Media is a leading provider of news, weather, and other content for web sites, wireless, digital signage, interactive applications, broadcast and print use. I was "interviewed" by Ms. Kris Alingod and was asked to provide comments on the Philiipine BPO industry the way I see it, and what will be effect of the global financial crisis on the Philippine's "sunshine industry". Special thanks to Lexie and forums.pinoycallcenter.com.

Telecom Corp. New Zealand to move Call Center Jobs to Manila

How tiring is it to work on the night shift? Well I've been on the "graveyard shift" for almost 3 years straight and I would really would still wish to have a "normal day job". But because I earn more by working night time, then I chose to be in these unholy working hours. hehe! But recently I noticed more and more Australian or New Zealand call center accounts are becoming available for call center agents. Thus, providing a day-time version of our beloved work as a choice.

According to the news:

Telecom Corp., New Zealand's largest telephone company, will move an additional 250 call-center jobs to the Philippines over the next 18 months to reduce costs.

Manila will house 700 call center jobs for Telecom, while 1,600 positions will remain in New Zealand after the restructure, the Auckland-based company said in an e-mailed statement.
Telecom is cutting costs to arrest a slide in profits amid increased competition and the expense of meeting a government directive to separate into three units. A year of trials meant Telecom will retain about 550 residential call center positions in New Zealand even as it shifts positions to the Philippines.

The trial showed that offshore staff delivered strong results in areas where specific technical knowledge was important. About 155 jobs supporting the high-speed Internet service will be moved.

Well, this development is more than welcome, as the Philippines proves that it has become a premier destination for Australian, New Zealand call center businesses.

February Agent of the Month: Heyz

It's all but wonderful meeting and talking to our February Agent of the Month, Heyz. Giving her straight-forward insight and fearless opinion about... her favorite color. hehe! Kidding aside, Ok, all about the good stuff right now:

Alex: Describe your company.
heYz: 24/7, for me, is a really great company. You know what, I simpy love it!! I like how they manage the employees as well as how they put into practice the values of the company. "Walk the talk."

Alex: What do you like best in your job?
heYz: Aside from getting a pay-that-is-higher-than-the-other-employees-because-you-somehow-risk-your-health-in-doing-the-job, it's the feeling of some sort of "happiness" when you know that you helped someone. There are customers who call and they are so frustrated and sometimes they just need to feel that someone can understand their situation. And I enjoy the job because it's happy working with people almost of the same age as yours.

Alex: what do you usually do on your breaks?
heYz: I usually go to the ladies' room to do some "retouch" haha..sometimes I just stay at my station and chat with my team mates

Alex: Describe your perfect day at work.
heYz: When I got everything in control. When I'm not late haha. When I feel that no call is a hard call as long as I got my feet under the table.

Alex: Can you give some advice to aspiring call center agents?
heYz: Some thought that being in a call center is an easy job, easy money...Well think twice! There's more than just getting a good pay. You have to make sure that you're ready to take the responsibilities. Ready to sacrifice your social life haha..WEll, honestly, you have to "love" your work as an agent. It's like you're in love with someone, you're excited to see the person and you treat the person with utmost importance, it's the same thing you have to do towards the job. It's hard to drag yourself to work only because you HAVE to work. LOVING it would make life easier for you.

Alex: What is your favorite color and why?
heYz:This is the best question of all haha.I love piNk! or should I say I'm in love with piNk hehe..I don't know why but it makes me feel good when I have something piNk on me. Makes me feel more confident. "Pretty in Pink" hehe.. And I think it somehow signifies the real me..romantic and charming. naks! lol

Love your work! take it from Heyz, for a successful career in a call center.
